I do not know Jesus

Do you know who Jesus is? No, the waitress replied, who was just healed from back and leg pain. She was in awe and extremely grateful. She wanted to get to know this Jesus, who had just cured her. I was totally shocked that she did not know who Jesus is.

So I told her that He is the Son of God and the Son of Man. That He is the way to God. That he was born human, but never did anything wrong. If you have done something wrong you have to die. Have you done everything right? No, she replied, and I did not replicate either. So, if you believe in this Jesus and what He did, His death is a deputy death and pays the price for all sins of the world, including yours and mine.

Suddenly she expressed that she is going to church sometimes and that she was baptized as a teenager. Then I realized, with the help of my friend Karlien, that what she meant was that she personally did not know Jesus. I continued to tell her that she can turn away from her own way and ask forgiveness for her sins. Begin believing in Jesus, what He did and begin to follow Him. Then He forgives you, creates a new heart and moves in. Then you become a child of God. Her response was to repent, receive forgiveness, and start believing in Jesus.

Then I asked if she knew the next step? No. It is baptism, which means that you prove that you decided to follow Jesus. You die with Him, your old life is being buried and you begin to live a new life with Him. Then she realized that her baptism as a teenager of tradition, is not valid. It is on our own repentance and faith, we are baptized into Christ. She wanted to be baptized, but the same evening it did not work, but the next day before the job it suited. So we decided to meet at the reception at our hotel at 2 pm and then she would be baptized in the pool.

What is incredible is that a person can go from darkness to light and the whole heaven is cheerful, but we Christians here on earth, we pretend nothing has happened and sometimes says in unbelief “Do you really think she’s coming”? However, I cheered in my heart and put my faith to God to preserve her.

Jag känner inte Jesus

Vet du vem Jesus är? Nej, svarar servitrisen, som precis blivit helad från smärta i rygg och skenben. Hon var förundrad och oerhört tacksam. Hon ville lära känna denne Jesus, som precis hade helat henne. Jag blev helt chockad, att hon inte visste vem Jesus är.

Så jag berättade att Han är Guds son och Människosonen. Att Han är vägen till Gud. Att han blev född som människa, men aldrig gjorde något fel. Om man gjort något fel måste man dö. Har du gjort allt rätt? Nej, svarade hon och inte jag heller replikerade jag. Så om man tror på denne Jesus och det Han gjort, så är Hans död en ställföreträdande död och betalar priset för all världens synder, inklusive dina och mina.

Plötsligt yppade hon att hon går till kyrkan ibland och att hon döptes som tonåring. Då förstod jag, med hjälp av min vän Karlien, att det hon menat var att hon personligen inte känner Jesus. Jag fortsatte berätta att hon kan vända om från sin egen väg och be om förlåtelse för sina synder. Börja tro på Jesus, det Han gjort och börja följa Honom. Då förlåter Han dig, skapar ett nytt hjärta och flyttar in. Då blir du ett Guds barn. Hennes svar blev att omvända sig, ta emot förlåtelse och börja tro på Jesus.

Sen frågade jag om hon visste nästa steg? Nej. Det är dopet, vilket betyder att du bevisar att du beslutat följa Jesus. Du dör med Honom, ditt gamla liv blir begravet och du börjar leva ett nytt liv med Honom. Då insåg hon att dopet av tradition som tonåring, inte är gällande. Det är på vår egen omvändelse och tro, vi döps till Kristus. Hon ville bli döpt, men samma kväll gick det inte, men nästa dag före jobbet passade det. Så vi bestämde mötas i receptionen på vårt hotell kl. 14 och sedan skulle hon döpas i poolen.

Det förunderliga är att en person kan gå från mörker till ljus och hela himlen jublar, men vi kristna här på jorden vi forsätter som om inget hade hänt och säger ibland i otro “tror du verkligen att hon kommer”? Jag jublade dock i mitt hjärta och satte min tro till att Gud skulle bevara henne.
